Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
