Iran is ready to restart nuclear negotiations with the United States on condition that it is handled with "dignity" and "honor", Tehran's foreign minister has announced.

Abbas Araghchi declared solely negotiations was effective, and revealed fresh requests had come from go-betweens to reopen negotiations with the Trump administration. He asserted Iran had zero undeclared nuclear sites, and Iran could not yet authorize the global atomic watchdog to inspect bombed nuclear sites for protective measures.

Walking a Challenging Route

Araghchi is walking a challenging route since Iran does not want be seen to be operating from a situation of vulnerability, and he emphatically stated that Iran had come out more powerful militarily and psychologically from the joint assault on its nuclear sites in June.

He was speaking at a security conference in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "an absolute privilege to enrich uranium domestically that it will never give up" – the primary cause of the stalemate in the previous talks.

Prior Negotiations Abruptly Concluded

The prior phases of discussions between the United States and Iran were brought to an abrupt and acrimonious end on 12 June when the Israeli government, with American backing, attacked Iranian nuclear sites in a 12-day war that concluded with Donald Trump asserting the facilities had been destroyed. Following this, European countries used their right to restore international penalties, but Iran insists they have not had a significant effect.

Perfect Agreement Offered

Iranian officials stated they felt they had achieved a "ideal resolution" to the uranium processing matter in prior discussions, when it was settled an domestic cooperative with American involvement could enrich uranium. Each party would have been able to declare success since domestic enrichment would have remained and the US could be assured that Iran's nuclear programme was entirely non-military.

It had not been agreed in the discussions that Washington's technical specialists could operate within Iranian territory, but that was a reasonable assumption of the consortium proposal. Representatives stated repeatedly they had achieved a deal with the US representative the American negotiator only for the arrangement to fall apart due to "spoilers in Washington".

Existing Position

Negotiations Remains the Final Solution

Araghchi said: "It was not Iran that had fled dialogue; it was America and the European states that had always tried to enforce their desires during the negotiations. Dialogue can still be viable and continues the primary answer to resolve conflicts, but its standards, guidelines and tenets must be adhered to."

"In case they talk to the nation of Iran with the tone of respect and honor, they will get a response in the equivalent tone."

Repair and Recovery

In what is characterized by Tehran representatives as the conflict of repair and recovery, Araghchi claimed he was certain Iran's defence capabilities "are much stronger than before 13 or 14 June of this year. All our capabilities have been reestablished. We learned multiple understandings from this war; we have identified our personal limitations and the shortcomings of the opponent."

He continued: "We effectively endured this war. Our atomic expertise, which they aimed to eliminate, continues to exist. The facilities and machinery, if destroyed, will be rebuilt; what is essential is the resolve of the citizens of Tehran and then the unity of the country that they sought to undermine, but failed to destroy. The nation of Iran have developed stronger, more cohesive, and more endorsing of the administration and the nation in the aftermath of this attack."
