Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of heroes who will separate from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the party reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
